Door Slab, Track and Wall Clearance
The slab should be wide enough to cover the opening in the closed position and have enough unobstructed wall space to park when open. Light switches, outlets, trim, artwork or adjacent doors can interfere with that travel path.
Track length and mounting height are planned from the product and door dimensions. The final layout should be checked before drilling because moving a long track after installation can leave unnecessary holes in the wall.
Backing, Studs and Track Support
A barn-door track carries the door through several concentrated mounting points. The wall condition and available framing need to match the hardware design. Some installations use a header or backing board to distribute the attachment and clear existing casing.
Decorative drywall alone should not be assumed to provide the required support. If new framing or substantial wall reconstruction is needed, that becomes a different carpentry scope.
Track, Rollers and Stops
The track is mounted level so the door does not drift open or closed on its own. Rollers are attached to the slab at the manufacturer locations, then the door is hung and checked for smooth travel.
Stops at each end prevent the rollers from leaving the track, and anti-jump components are installed where included. These small parts are important to the supplied system and should not be omitted just because the door appears to slide without them.
Floor Guide and Door Alignment
A floor or wall-mounted guide keeps the bottom of the slab from swinging away from the wall. Its location is set after the door hangs correctly so the guide captures the door through the full travel range.
The slab is checked for plumb relative to the opening and for clearance over flooring or rugs. If the floor varies significantly, the track or door height may need to be planned around the highest point.
Barn Door vs Pocket or Hinged Door
A barn door remains visible on the wall and needs clear side space. A pocket door slides into a wall cavity, while a hinged door swings within a conventional frame. Those systems solve similar space questions but require very different hardware and wall conditions.
